Rayah and Sarah were out bright and early this morning to get the first peaches of the season. These sisters are from Uganda and have never eaten one of our peaches. They are my great nieces and are visiting with their mother, my niece, Robin Hancock, for the summer before they head back to Uganda. Some of you may remember my niece, Robin as she used to sell for us when she was in high school. We felt like since she came the farthest for a peach (Uganda) she should get the first ones. So Elizabeth is serving them up some peaches.
Today is the first day of our 2009 harvest! We have staved off late freezes, ducked hail, fended off strong winds, and endured long days of rain. The sun is out today and we have some Goldcrest peaches picked and on the table at our Fairfield stand today. We plan to be open all weekend and will see if we have enough to remain open during the week.
